December ALANGO

Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2011, saw a wondrous event at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Alango. Under the entrance to the tiny, white church of the Northwoods, a live nativity was acted out. There were shepherds and wise men, camels and cows, a live goat and sheep, angels, a mother and father, and the Savior of the world: the infant Jesus. For two hours, the birth of Jesus was played out as the Christmas story from the gospels of Luke and Matthew was read every 15 minutes.
Folks came from near and far, some stopping by and looking from their vehicles from Highway 22, others getting out and joining in the singing of carols that followed the reading of the Christmas story. The congregation of St. Paul provided coffee, hot chocolate, and goodies in the church fellowship space during the whole event. There was lots of visiting and sharing as the cast members came in following each presentation to warm up and get ready for the next rendition.
The live nativity was the project of Becky Barnes and Dani Super, with lots of help from congregation and community members. Tifany Briggs of Angora brought over a live sheep and goat to be part of the evening.
While this was the first live nativity project by St. Paul, Alango is sure to see more of the same in the years to come.
